BEFORE AND AFTER KITCHEN

It's hell getting old.  

The other day while I was out shopping for a client...... I had to pee so badly.

Since I was right near my house I decided to just go home to a clean [somewhat clean] bathroom.

As I turned down my street I took a sip of my Starbucks and it went down the wrong way....came out my nose....spilled all over my white shirt....and I started coughing so hard I peed in my pants.

Needless to say that little stop at home lasted somewhat longer than I planned since I had to change clothes.

Like I said.....

Have I mentioned how excited I am to have a project out in Southern Homes right now?

I loved working on this renovation with my favorite builder....Michael Ladisic and project manager Jennifer Tate was incredible and so helpful.

The client was a bright star....so easy to work with....we became fast friends.

I have posted a little during this project a couple of years ago but today I can show you some images I had taken for my own portfolio [Rustic White Photography] mixed in with a few from the magazine [Marcy Simpson].

Starting today with the kitchen before and afters.....

Before of the kitchen space.....yep ready for a new look!

After

The architect [Linda MacArthur] was able to take out a back staircase to get more room for the butlers pantry back towards the right.  Those white chairs [Vanguard] are Sunbrella fabric and the pewter table is by Francoise and Co  The Circa Lighting Darlana pendants, cabinets painted Benjamin Moore White Dove.  Calcutta marble countertops [Construction Resources].

I know you remember those gorgeous Top Knob handles....they are my favorite!

Before

This is my favorite shot!  We used a small herringbone marble backsplash from Renaissance Tile.  Rohl faucet. 

Notice the beautiful edging on the countertops....

Even though this is a white kitchen I feel like the wood tones, iron window and stone floors give it lots of warmth.

We picked the stone floors as the homeowner is an animal lover and has 2 dogs....and one very naughty cat:)  Much more forgiving than hardwoods!

The butlers pantry has Soapstone countertops and the black subway tile came from Renaissance Tile.

Before

We added some shiplap to the fireplace and a stone mantel from Materials Marketing.  I really love the wood accents which look a little red here but in actuality are more of a driftwood color.

I only have one picture of the family room but we used the art that was formally over the FP mantel over the Charles Stewart sectional [Crypton fabric]

Lynn Terry, the Southern Homes editor, has offered me [ 3 ] one year subscriptions so leave a message and I will pick randomly!

BEACH RENTAL UPDATE

Sorry I missed Friday's post!  We got to the beach on Thursday and I think I just shut down for 24 hours:)

I couldn't  believe how different the kitchen looked!  I knew I hated it before.....but after the renovation I was amazed at how much bigger it appeared.

Remember.....I had to do this on a  strict budget!  

Doing this project long distance was hard for me but my contractor was amazing....I really lucked out.  Y'all remember how stressed I was over selecting SW Pure White.....well I am here to say all is well.

I don't have exact pictures of the before but I grabbed some from the rental website [as all of them look exactly the same].

After....minimal staging here cause I'm on vacation haha.

I'll say it again....paint is a huge game changer.....

If you look carefully you can see how the island is bar height which I am not a fan of at all!!!

Again not my unit but my exact kitchen!

After the counter was cut down.

I picked a subway tile just because it is classic and will stand the test of time....

I also added some shiplap around the island as it was drywall before and got pretty beat up.

Barstools are from Four Hands that I had ordered for someone else but they didn't work.....turns out  they look great with the granite!

The granite is Alaskan White which after research is sometimes called Colonial White.  I had to use granite because it is the most durable for a rental and much cheaper than quartz.

I used my favorite Grohe faucet.....

I didn't change the hardware holes but I did go to chrome to brighten things up.....

We had to replace the wall oven and the cooktop so I used Kitchenaid.

I ordered EVERYTHING from Build.com except the backsplash: [Lowes] granite: SS Granite

Damn I'm still amazed when I look at it and I see kitchen reno's all the time!

Here is one more thing that finally got changed out after 11 years.....can you believe I waited that long?

This light fixture was in EVERY unit....

I picked up the one below [which was a floor model at the mart] for a couple hundred dollars!  Of course I smugly went to ship it and UPS wanted over 500.00.

Crikey.  Thankfully we managed to fit it in the car with the 3 barstools, all of the luggage and Cami!!

Y'all this was started on Nov 27th and we got here Dec 28th.  Can you believe it.  I mean there are a few things left to do but Chris worked day and night!  If you live in the Destin area here is his info.

 It is a balmy 32 degrees here yet there are people in the pool. Are you kidding me?

Hope y'all had a great New Years Eve.  So excited for 2018!

MATTHEW QUINN'S KITCHEN AT KIPS BAY PALM BEACH SHOWHOUSE

OK....all of you are forgiven....I received many comments about SW Pure White.  Apparently I was giving it a bad rap.  To be honest I was acting more like a client than a designer!  Yup....looking at a white swatch and forgetting that when it is up it will probably just read white:)

I haven't seen it yet and my contractor has sent me some pics but hard to tell.  I won't be there until after Christmas so that is when the screaming or jumping for joy will happen.....ha ha.

Either way.....1st world problems.

I am still in Florida but leaving in a few hours so trying to crank this baby out!

As promise all the details about Matthew Quinn's Kips Bay Palm Beach Showhouse kitchen.

First of all it did not disappoint.  I think it's safe to say that if you do something for 20 years or more you are quite the expert and this guy knows how to WOW us with his honed skill.

I did not get the cabinet color but the ceiling was painted a beautiful pale blue.

I got to see the before pictures and it was a dark space with dark cabinets.  There were no windows in this kitchen at all but he added lots of light and "bling" to resolve that issue. 

This Natasha Baradaran Pari Pendant from R Hughes light fixture was the crown jewel!

Another way he lightened up the space was by adding mirrors.  The one on the left was a door door [which he mirrored] and he created symmetry by adding the mirror on the RHS.  Perfection!

The Phillip Jeffries wallpaper was another perfect element.

The floors had to stay but [in my opinion] I did not mind them at all....I asked about the bar stools and he got them on All Modern but he recovered them!

Guess where this gorgeous wood bowl came from?

HomeGoods!  I can just see him grabbing that sucker and clutching it close like gold.  

I think this faucet was Kohler.
