A Peek At Some Of My Latest Designs

Here's a peek at what I've been working on in the world of design. I love making these feather illustrations. I colorized this ink drawing with watercolor paint.

Bohemian Spirit Feathers in Blue & Green

As you probably could guess, I've really been in the mood for watercolor painting. I created my own take on the talisman for evil eye protection with the painting below, and then turned it into a pattern. It's now featured on Society6! 

Once I finished the design I created it on three different backgrounds: white, light blue, and black. I can't decide which I like the most!

I love this next design. It's a paisley that I painted in watercolor, reduced in size, and turned into a repeat pattern. I have it available in blue, rose pink, tea (shown below), green with pink, aqua, and blue with pink.

This Monstera Leaf design is another one that I had a lot of fun with. Tropical leaf patterns are very popular right now. I did the original painting in green but then digitally changed the colors to suit my mood. I thought they looked very exotic in indigo, and I love them on both the blush and black backgrounds. Which do you prefer?

New Artist Crush {Laura Dro Designs}

Happy Monday All! A short week for many of you and I am sure you are looking forward to the holiday weekend. Can you believe that tomorrow is already July? Wha What? I can't believe it. I have a feeling that summer is going to fly by. I sure don't want to wish it away.

Today we are talking art. I love all different kinds of art from abstract, to portrait paintings to landscapes and photography. If I was rich I would spend a lot of money on artwork for sure. I think it brings such character to a home. Displaying meaningful photos and artwork can really show others what inspires you. Artwork is also a perfect starting spot to grab colors from when decorating a space.
I have learned over the past couple of years that you don't have to be rich to have fabulous artwork displayed in your home. You may remember my abstract artwork for less post a few weeks ago or the Etsy's kids artwork post I did last year. These are both great ideas for artwork on a budget.

I was recently contacted by Laura Dro Designs to choose a print of my choice for my home! Let me tell you how hard that decision was. I am in love with the colors and texture Laura brings to her pieces. They are perfect for any room in your home. She creates abstracts as well as watercolor animal illustrations (which would be perfect in a nursery).

I decided to choose the Peony in Coral print for my bedroom. I knew it would add a little summer touch to our master bedroom.

I love how this print adds a bit of a feminine touch on my side of the bed. It makes me smile!

The colors are so vibrant! You wouldn't even guess it was a print. It looks and feels like an original. That makes me wonder how brilliant the colors must have been on Laura's original design.

Watercolor Painting {Before & After}

I heard all of you Northerners are getting slammed with cold and snow again?! I am sending lots of wishes for Spring your way today. Not too much longer...hang in there or move to NC!

Today we are talking watercolor paintings. You all know my new favorite App, but for the real deal you need to stop on over to see my friend Michelle. I found her through Etsy when I was scouting out artists to paint a picture for my parents for a Christmas gift. She mostly paints house portraits, but you can see she is amazing at wildlife portraits as well as garden paintings.

I love the detail she brings to each painting. They are so lifelike that I feel as though I am right in front of the homes!

So for Christmas I had Michelle paint my childhood lake home. Before my parents moved from NY, they had to sell our cottage which my grandparents had built when I was just three years old. It was a wonderful place filled with so many memories. Since then new owners have knocked down the original place and built their million dollar home. Nice for them, sad for us. But at least my parents now live a mile from me here in NC where we can make many more memories! It was a blessing in disguise.

I sent Michelle the following three pictures of our cottage:

I told her a few details like how there were always towels and swimsuits hanging over the upper railing, green Adirondack chairs sat near the lake where we would often have campfires at night, blackberry bushes adorned the front of the home and a table with an umbrella to the left part of the deck was where there were many family dinners and conversations.

Every detail was placed exactly where I remembered it! It makes me miss my cottage so much. I am so very blessed to have wonderful memories and each time I walk past this painting in my parent's kitchen, I can't help but stop and smile.
