Logic Won Out!

First, I must say that one of the benefits that go with blogging is being able to categorize my pictures of projects and know when I did them.

Time flies and I just don't realize how much has been done until I see all the pictures and how long ago I did each one.

Now on to the reason that logic won out. 

I have a favorite Purdy paint brush that I use to cut in the walls before rolling on

Painted Patio Rug!

Now that it's done

I can say,


"It's really pretty but,

Oh my aching back!"

I painted this 'rug' directly on the concrete!

It has a lovely pergola and that makes it feel cozy with the surrounding rock wall and it's also lower than the yard. But it was boring. So I decided to paint the concrete to make it look like a rug was under the

I bet not!

After the dust settled on our huge garage sale, we realized that we sold something that we use every day...

Our master bathroom clock!

And if you know me, I didn't want just a clock to replace the clock.

 I wanted something different...
                 Something special.

I looked online and in every store that I could think of that carries clocks. I found that

Well, I am only showing one here, but there are two. I don't even remember where I got these (that's pretty bad)! Tired, dirty, and missing cane seats...on the bright side, they are sturdy and get my creative juices flowing!

I had my new Granddaughter in mind when I saw this...


 I decided to simply paint it white after cleaning and regluing. Also it was missing the handlebars.


I found some very soft yarn and made a mane and tail.


For now, it is up out of the way...

This is one of those projects that came out better than expected.




The finished plan was in my head, but as I was working on each step, more and more evolved.




I think it's going to lead a very rewarding second life.

The poor thing had no legs and the upper drawers had originally had two knobs each but someone converted them into

This is what I started with, a table top and four legs in much need a L-O-V-E. You all know what I am talking about, right?

Do you see what is missing? Yes, the board that would hold the legs apart in their proper distance. I crawled up into the attic above the hobby garage

A New Dresser and A Special Girl!

I have been away from my computer for a bit. Have you missed me?

I am the proud new Grandma of a beautiful baby girl, my daughter's first precious gift from God.

Oh do I ever have a birth story for you! I will not get into the heavy details, but let's just say, we really were exhaustively overjoyed to have Isla (Eye-La) Rose come into this world after 40 hours of labor!

asked me to paint

a decorative baby-sized canoe

for her...



It was made by a family member

and the craftsmanship executed

so  well...



Here is the original raw wood...


She wanted it in a dark stain contrasted with white paint. I also distressed the canoe but it was tricky to paint with the small details on this piece, plus the hard to reach areas.

Tulips for Mom!

It all started with these little rascals.





I've shown you these kids before. They are the children of a custom home builder, that I do accounts receivable for and am good friends with their Mom. I love these kids and have been around since before each were born. My heart is attached to them.

My son Charlie has figured out that I can do a lot of things and that I love doing for him.

Empire Dresser Reveal

This is probably the 
most intense
and hardest
DIY project 
that I have 
worked on...


in a long time!

Here's the story...

I found this old Empire dresser for only $15.  It stunk and had a missing drawer.


I thought I could save it from the dump.


I brought it home to Hubby saying that it should go in the burn pile! I had a feeling that he might be right on that statement!

It was covered in paint runs and cracked and even candle wax. What it had good going for it was that it's solid pine (so real wood) and a cute size. I had already taken the door off before the picture.


I simply did what I could...cleaned it up

Legs to Lamps

 When I first saw these, I knew what they would become!





I had done this before and it's really not that hard. I used many layers of paint knowing that I was going to sand down and distress these enough to see all the layers of color, two shades of gray, old white, and pale green on top.

I live in a small city of 45,000! A great place to live and bring up kids so I am not complaining. 



I have lived in very large cities like Tulsa, Oklahoma and loved it.



But I have everything I need here and am very happy to be in a smaller town.



The one sad thing, as a DIY person and a lover of repurposing furniture, is that Craigslist is not popular or used much in my area.

Actually, it started out like this below. Yes, the paint was peeling and a knob would not stay in and the back decorative piece was missing...but

I finally found a

So I worked my magic with AS Chalk Paint in French Linen, but lightened the paint with white.
