New Broken China Jewelry For Valentine's Day!

Hi friends! I hope you all had a great holiday and Happy New Year. The holidays wiped out much of my jewelry inventory on Etsy, so I spent the last (frigid!) week catching up, making some new pieces so I could get them listed in my Etsy shop on time for Valentine's Day shoppers.

Don't wait! Every year I land up with a few last minute Valentine's Day shoppers who have to rush to get their gifts on time. If you order now, there is still lots of time for you to receive your package before Valentine's day.

I finished and listed fifteen brand new pieces yesterday, and here is a preview. Each item seen here is available for sale in my Etsy shop, DishfunctionlDesigns

Have a great week!

What Is That Spot On The Back Of My China Pendant?

If you own a piece of my Dishfunctional Designs Broken China Jewelry, you might have noticed something on the reverse side of your china pendant.

It's not on many of my pendants (and other jewelry pieces I make such as pin brooches and bracelets), but it is on a few.

Every once in a while you will come across a small circular bump - what looks to be a dink - on the reverse side surface of the china.

Hmmm. Mysterious.

Can you guess what it is?

Give up?

It's called a stilt mark or a kiln spur, and it's a resting mark from where the plate once sat in the kiln when it was fired. You will usually find three of them on the reverse side of a plate.

Yup, these little dinks and spots are actually a pretty interesting fact about the antique piece of the past that you now wear around your neck!

I thought that was a pretty cool fact! I think that they add interest and character to something that already is pretty unique - they are like a part of each piece of china's story.

What do you think?

Have a great week!

Gearing Up For The Holidays - New In My Shop For November

Hi friends! Here are some of the new pieces of broken china jewelry that I just finished up and listed in my Etsy shop this week.

I've been super-busy stocking up for the holidays and already folks are getting a head-start with their holiday shopping and buying pieces for Christmas gifts and stashing them away. Good for them!

I wish I could be as savvy with my own holiday shopping, but in reality, I am usually just so busy working up until the last minute to make sure all packages get out on time that I often find myself running a bit behind with my own shopping. But it always gets finished!

My daughters and I have started planning what cookies we are going to bake and I have already started my shopping list for our baking supplies!

That might seem a bit early, but when you think about how I am making jewelry, selling, wrapping and shipping up until the very last minute before the holiday, it's essential. My younger daughter has a birthday right before Thanksgiving, so we go birthday, Thanksgiving, and then right into Black Friday and the holidays without a break!

That being said, shop now for your best selection and fastest shipping! And don't forget to set your clocks back an hour on Sunday Nov. 5th for the end of daylight savings time! :)

Broken China Jewelry - Quick Update New Items

Hi friends, this is just a quick update to show you a few new pieces of broken china jewelry that I finished a few days ago and recently listed in my shop.

I'm working on some new pieces today and hopefully will have those finished and up in my shop within the next day or so, but I thought I'd go ahead and share these pieces with you right away.

I get a lot of comments on the Statue of Liberty china pattern. You don't often come across historical America or Americana patriotic china patterns, so this really is a unique piece!

The purple or plum transferware plate shown at the end of this post is the plate I used in my instructional DVD, Make Vintage and Upcycled Jewelry: Dishfunctional™ Plate Necklace, which you can find here

Learn how to make broken china jewelry with my DVD workshop!

I hope you like them! All items shown are available for sale in my Etsy shop, so be sure to check them out for more info on each piece.

Let me know what you'd like to see next!

If you've purchased from me and want to show off your jewelry please send me a photo of you wearing it and I would LOVE to feature it on my blog and/or my Dishfunctional Designs Facebook page!

Feel free to send me photos through Facebook or email them to me at sales@dishfunctionaldesigns.com or even through an Etsy message. I LOVE seeing folks enjoying what I make so send me those photos!
