Orange & Blue For Autumn

I can't not talk about orange and blue. What a great color combination! And not only that, what a great way to display your blue and white china but with some orange pumpkins or gourds during autumn. 

Whether you collect blue English transferware, Blue Willow china, or my favorite—amazing Flow Blue china— autumn is one of the best times of the year to show off your blue china by pairing it with the warm orange and yellow tones of the season. 

Right now I have the plate shown here (flea market find, two for $4!) displayed on a table with a few mini pumpkins on top. And that's it—plain and simple, no froufrou, no glitter, no ribbons, no magic dust, just a mini celebration of color. As a matter of fact, if I were going to add anything else at all to this look, it would be a bed of two or three fall-colored autumn leaves below the pumpkins, and that's it. 

I love looking at and being inspired by amazing and creative tablescapes (and I have a new blog post coming soon showing a few of my favorites!), but to tell you the truth, they're really not my personal style for my own home. 

Unless I am dressing up my table for a one-time special event such as Thanksgiving, I keep my table pretty much straightforward and simple. Sometimes I just don't have the time to put into it, or the extra money to spend on it! 

Plus, the more stuff I put on my table, the more nosy my cat gets - and he has to take a really close look at everything.

Pantone Colors of the Year {Rose Quartz & Serenity}

Yes you read that right... COLORS of the year. Usually Pantone comes out with one color for the year but this year they decided to throw a curve ball in the world of color and design.

Introducing Pantone's 2016 colors of the year:

Some of you may love these colors while others may be a bit turned off at this color combination. Before you leave this post let me give you some inspiration that will either confirm your dislike for these colors or change your mind on these pastel-like colors.

Let's start with Rose Quartz....I am attracted to this color in small doses. Am I going to paint a whole room this color? Probably not. (unless my daughter wants a pink room someday, then we'll talk)  But a throw pillow or accent vase would add just a touch of pink without going overboard. And how about this door color? I might get on board with that!

The table setting below really shows how both colors can be paired well together. And of course I love how they added a touch of gold!

Now onto Serenity.....

I have to admit that this color in small doses would also work for me. However, I am not a huge fan of the purple undertones in this color so I am giving you a glimpse of more of a sky blue in some of these inspiration photos.

I am really drawn to spaces that have more of a neutral backdrop which bring out the pastel colors with a pop!

Tuesday Treats #19 {Fourth of July Entertaining}

You all are seriously the best! Thank you so much for all of your kind words on yesterday's post. I love being able to share new artists with you, but also feel comfortable sharing bits of my home as well.

Those of you who live in the U.S....are you all ready for a long weekend? I am excited to spend some serious time with friends and family over our long weekend. We have wonderful friends coming in from out of town as well as a whole Saturday planned with family. I love entertaining, but to be honest I am glad I am the guest this year. So even though I am not entertaining, I have found some fabulous ideas for all of you that are!

I really love this quick and easy banner made by my friend Courtney. Grab some red, white & blue napkins and give it a go! It would make any party festive.

#2: Fruit Ice Cubes

I have a bit of an obsession when it comes to making flavored water during the summer months. Many of you probably saw my strawberry and basil water on Instagram yesterday. That is just the start people! How cute would these ice cubes look at your 4th of July party? You could use these in Water, Sangria, Lemonade or punch. Someone please use this idea so I can live vicariously through you!

#4: Red, White & Blueberries Platter

So fun and easy to recreate. I have also seen this platter with cheese cubes instead of yogurt covered pretzels. Both sound fabulous to me!

#5: Flag Mason Jar Centerpiece

These would make an adorable centerpiece with flowers or a place to put utensils. I am sure most of us have some kind of jars or vases lying around the house.
